"St Benedict’s chapel by Peter Zumthor in Switzerland encapsulates what I admire most about architecture that is sensitive to the site. The little chapel responds to the distinctive mountain setting perching precariously into the hillside. Its shape and orientation allow the entrance to be protected against any prevailing wind and snow from the mountain. Internally the light is maximised whilst respecting the need for solitude required in this types of buildings.
This ability to create a sense of place and atmosphere distinctive to the site and its brief has left an everlasting impression on me".
