A large-scale restoration and refurbishment of Jamestown’s Grade I Listed open air market. The market is a rare example of a decorative prefabricated iron structure (circa 1865), purpose built for shipping to the British Colonies by Gwynne & Co, London. The proposal is for a sensitive restoration of the historic superstructure and installation of a new low tech sustainable ‘market day’ structure in the centre. Locally sourced volcanic concrete is being proposed for the primary structure of the installation.
Concept Scheme completed in September 2012.
