A collaboration with Italian artisans to elevate a historic London residence.
Located on one of South Kensington’s most distinguished squares, this Grade II* listed townhouse has been sensitively modernised to reflect the client’s passion for arts and crafts. MWAI retained the original plan form, reconfiguring and redecorating the interiors to elevate the home’s historic character while introducing contemporary comfort.
Working closely with the client, interior designers and contractor Urban Living, MWAI integrated a rich palette of materials and finishes. Reclaimed 19th-century oak boards, sisal stair runners, and marble surfaces bring warmth and texture to the spaces. The joinery was shaped to complement the architecture, while walls were treated with artisanal techniques — enamel, stucco, gold leaf, wax — or dressed in oriental silks and fabrics.
