From artist squat to refined residence – a story of transformation.
Built circa 1730 and located on Upper Grosvenor Street, this Grade II listed Georgian mansion sits at the heart of Mayfair’s historic Grosvenor Estate. MWAI was appointed to lead the architectural restoration and extension of the 15,000 sqft office building, returning it to its original use as a single-family residence.
The house had undergone many transformations — from offices in the 1930s to a temporary home and studio for the artist group ‘The DA! Collective’. MWAI’s design reinstates the building’s domestic character while introducing contemporary luxury.
A new glass rear extension houses a light-filled kitchen, and a spa and pool have been added beneath the house at basement level. MWAI collaborated with Martin Kemp Design to deliver bespoke interiors, working alongside Interior ID to ensure every detail was carefully considered. The result is a home that honours its Georgian heritage while embracing the needs of modern living — a quiet grandeur shaped by craft, proportion and light.
