MWAI as architect of record for hotel ownership and operator, in collaboration with PYR Paris
MWAI served as architect of record for the comprehensive refurbishment of Sofitel St James’s 183 guestrooms and associated public areas. Appointed by the hotel ownership and operator, MWAI worked alongside Parisian interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon (PYR) to deliver a phased transformation while the hotel remained fully operational.
The scope included bedrooms, bathrooms, corridors, and doors, with MWAI coordinating the work of PYR, mechanical and electrical engineers (Cudd Bentley), artwork installers (Artiq), and furniture suppliers (Castelbrook). Listed-building consent was secured to replace metal-framed and timber sash windows.
The refurbishment was executed during working hours to avoid guest disruption, requiring strategic planning and precise coordination. The final result blends Sofitel’s French elegance with British boldness, reinforcing its status as a premier hospitality destination.
