MWAI in Milan for Salone del Mobile 2022

June 10, 2022

We were pleased to return to Milan for the Design Week, we enjoyed the design, the weather and the Campari in the sun, which we felt very well deserved after walking miles at the Salone and Fuorisalone in Milano.

For those who are not familiar with the event, every year, the design communit congregates in Milan to showcase new designs, technologies and trends relating to interior finishes, furniture, sanitaryware, appliances, kitchen, lighting. 'Salone del Mobile' is the name of the trade show hosted on the grounds of the complex at Rho-Fiera, stretching one mile and offering 2 million square feel of exhibition halls. Designed by italian architect Massimiliano Fuksas, it is painfully long but nicely organised. The 'Fuorisalone' instead is an incredible collection of events that take place in the centre of Milan and outside of the official trade show. The beauty of fuorisalone is the opportunity to experience design in stunning locations (palaces, offices, shops, heritage sites) that are otherwise not open to the public.

Our take-aways from this year are wall-coverings and an ever growing attention to detail and craftsmanship which we hope will never disappear. After Covid we had the feeling there was a need for playfulness, textures and colours.

Inspiring as ever, and now back to the drawing board!
