Kensington Home, London

2021

Modernisation of a Grade II* Listed House located on one of London's prime squares in South Kensington.
The original plan form has been largely retained and rooms have been redecorated to receive new furniture and decor that would respect and elevate the original ornaments of the house.
MWAI worked closely with the clients, interior designers and contractor to integrate a multitude of beautifully crafted finishes. The result is an elegant and eclectic house, imbued with the clients’ personality and good taste, where surfaces and joinery give warmth to the spaces: from the reclaimed 19th century oak boards, to the Sisal runner on the staircase, to the marble used in the bathrooms. Thanks to the clients’ passion for arts and crafts, the interiors have been carefully crafted by a team of Italian artisans: the walls are decorated with artisanal techniques such as enamel, stucco, gold leaf and wax, or dressed in oriental silk and fabric and the joinery beautifully shaped to compliment the spaces.
