In 2012 MWAI won an international competition to provide speculative concepts for a series of Government Resource on the remote south atlantic island of St Helena. The Jamestown 2020 Vision, was created by Enterprise St Helena as a vehicle to attract inward investment on the remote island. Some projects were pure speculation – such as the new government offices, some were resource for the local planning authority, others were deliverable ideas.
The projects were presented at a series of public meetings and displayed for investors.
The projects concerned were:
• Mapping of Jamestown – for which no data existed for the LPA
• Pedestrianisation of the main square, new bank and supermarket.
• Relocation of the New government offices from the historic school
• Redevelopment of the Castle into a hotel complex
Throughout the course of the project MWAI engaged with the local community and undertook extensive historic research in support of the concept schemes.
